“Context turns facts into actionable information and in the end decisions that have a positive impact – and that’s what I hope to achieve today.”
September 22 & 23 marked the return of live events and saw professionals from across the country get together to talk and learn about the thing that makes the world go round: data.
In amongst the many insightful and fascinating speeches, panels, discussions and demos, Solidatus Co-CEO Philip Dutton presented a keynote speech focused around creating an active data culture for an interconnected world.
“Our vision," Philip stated, "is to change the way the world thinks about and manages data - because, most importantly, there needs to be a fundamental shift in the way we think about data.”
Why do we need to change the way we think about data?
We live in a world where we want to be connected to everyone, and we want to be connected all of the time. This desire to connect is not just to intersect with people, but to intersect with data and the processes that surround us.
But what we are currently doing isn't working. We need to create a data culture, and we need to embrace that culture and bring it in to everything we do.
Why? The facts speak for themselves:
- 2.5 quintillion bytes of data is created every day
- Over £5 billion will be spent on compliance tooling by 2022
- 1m+ organisation will have a DPO by 2022
- 90% of the worlds data was generated in the last two years
- 5% of revenue will be spent on regulatory compliance by FS organisations
- 43% of CDO’s now report directly to either the CEO or COO
Transformation starts with a strong foundation
"Would you walk into a building which had no plan when it was being built? Where the person who built it didn’t understand the buildings components and structural elements? And whether those elements, when intersected, would have an impact? The answer should be no, but every day organisations take that approach with their data – they don’t understand its context or how it intersects, but they use it to make important business decisions."
Like a building, data needs to have a blueprint and be considered through multiple lenses.
Solidatus can help you overcome key business challenges
Like Covid-19, data privacy is a pandemic. It's spreading across the world and creating huge restrictions for organisations wanting to utilise data.
The Solidatus ground-breaking lineage-first approach plays a vital role in data privacy by mapping the flow of data within an organisation, allowing for full transparency on how it is used.
Avoid the risk: take a proactive approach to data management
“The stick isn’t the reason you should be doing this, the carrot is. The revolution – that’s the value, that’s the business driver right there. The question is, are you ready to change the way you think about and manage your data?”
